How it works
XP tracking
How Clan_Bot records XP gains for the top gainers lists, and why some gains don't show up.
How gains are recorded
Each time a player's profile is fetched (see Player data updates), Clan_Bot compares their XP in every skill with the last fetch. If it went up, the gain is added to that day. Days are UTC days, matching the RuneScape game clock.
Gains are credited to the day they were seen, not the day they were earned. A player who is fetched every 2 hours shows up within a couple of hours; a player who had been idle for weeks may be fetched only every few days, so the XP from their first session back can land on a later day.
Periods
The XP gains page and /topgainers rank members by the total gained over a period: today, or the last 7, 30 or 90 days. Totals are added up per account, for Overall or for a single skill.
Gains belong to the account, not to the membership. If someone joins mid-period, XP they gained before joining during that period still counts.
Why a gain might not show
- Private profile: RuneMetrics shares no XP for private profiles, so nothing is recorded while a profile is private and the player never appears in the list.
- No trusted starting point: Clan_Bot only counts a gain when it knows the XP the player had before. For a new member, or a profile that hasn't been fetched successfully in more than 21 days (for example because it was private), the first fetch only sets the starting point. Gains are counted from the next fetch on.
- XP went down: this only happens with bad data, so it is treated as a new starting point rather than a negative gain.
How long history is kept
Daily history is kept for 90 days. Older days are removed automatically, so a period that would start before the oldest day still kept isn't offered.
